At the start of a new decade, we wanted to reflect on our favourite rebrands of the last 10 years at Cornerstone. These signified fresh starts for our clients wanting to modernise their look and showcase their best qualities. Take a look below to see how we’ve transformed their brands…

Oldham Active

We started working on Oldham Active’s brand in 2014. Part of the organisation Oldham Community Leisure, its existing branding was fairly corporate – nothing like the exciting leisure facilities it provided for the community. We inherited its “swoosh” logo and three brand colours, and built the rest of the brand around that, proposing to change direction to reflect the inviting space Oldham Active offered to their members.

We used the colours primarily to represent the different levels of membership at the leisure complex, giving existing and potential members a very clear visual of the varying tiers of membership. Design work, including printed material and web imagery, featured bright colours and rounded, bubbly fonts to give an impression of energy, excitement, and a welcoming atmosphere. This resulted in a much more appealing brand that worked harder to engage customers and complement Oldham Active’s offering.

Kirkham Property

Kirkham Property is an estate agent and one of our valued retainer clients, linked to sister businesses Kirkham Legal, which we also work with, and Kirkham Financial.

We started our work with Kirkham Property in 2015 with a rebrand and a new website. Their old brand had become very outdated, with a plain blue background and a chunky yellow “K” with white and yellow lettering in the foreground. Likewise, the website was not in line with the modern image that Kirkham wanted to present to be competitive in the local housing market industry.

Our proposed concepts took a much fresher approach to the brand and focused on simplicity and class. We wanted to give Kirkham a modern aesthetic, whilst showing a focus on quality. The large “K” was an element that Kirkham wanted to keep as it was a distinctive component of the brand, so our concepts worked on different ways to incorporate it into the final concepts.

The chosen design used a colourful statement “K” in a fresh colour scheme and simple capitalised typography. The three colours each represented a different part of the house brand: with Property being dark blue, Legal lime green, and Financial magenta. Using these signifiers, we could create web pages, literature and more for all three branches of the house brand which were complementary but still distinguishable. The logo and colour scheme, coupled with a high-quality photo library, gave Kirkham the competitive modern edge they were looking for and we used this to build their new website.

Harveys Workwear

Harveys Workwear came to us in 2019 for a retainer with integrated marketing activities that focused on growing their audience and establishing brand loyalty in their customers. One of the first steps of this was refreshing their brand.

Harveys is a manufacturer of high-quality workwear and uniforms in the UK. Similar to Kirkham, Harveys were a business with a modern attitude and manufacturing methods, but with a strong history behind them.

The chosen design incorporated a restrained colour palette with blue-grey tones that conveyed the quality of Harveys and its products. It also resonated with the traditional background of Harveys, whilst the more modern and minimal font conveyed the modern side of the business. A hand-written “H” was used as a watermark in the designs on literature and digital elements which was modelled on a sewing machine stitch.

The new brand reflected the excellence of Harveys’ products and meant that they could stand out as a leading supplier of workwear in the UK.
